HOMEMADE DEODORANT FOR SENSITIVE SKIN 🌿

This is a quick and easy summer project from Herbal Academy friend and graduate @scienceofessentials. We think you’ll love this recipe as much as we do!

Holly shares: “I finally made a deodorant recipe I LOVE that doesn’t have baking soda in it. Baking soda is praised for its odor-neutralizing properties however, for some people, it can cause significant irritation. The high pH level of baking soda can disrupt the natural acidity of the skin, leading to redness, itching, and discomfort.”

Here’s the recipe for you! It makes a 30ml round deodorant container.

INGREDIENTS
🌸 2 tablespoons (1 oz) Coconut oil
🌸 1.5 teaspoons (0.3 oz) Candelilla wax (see substitutions guide below)
🌸 1 tablespoon (0.25 oz) Tapioca starch
🌸 20-30 drops of essential oils (see combinations below)

DIRECTIONS
✨ Melt candelilla wax in a double boiler on low
✨ Add coconut oil and stir together until melted.
✨ Remove from heat when fully melted and quickly add essential oils and stir in.
✨ Quickly add tapioca starch and whisk together.
✨ Pour into mold and allow to solidify for 2 hours before using.

This recipe is 3% dilution.

Before you roll up your sleeves, here are some substitutions, combinations, and tips from Holly:

“My two favorite essential oil combinations are:
20 drops Grapefruit + 10 drops Cypress
OR 20 drops Lavender +10 drops Lemon

Other essential oil combinations to try:
Fir + Grapefruit
Cypress + Lemon
Chamomile + Bergamot
Black Pepper + Sandalwood

#tutorial #recipe #diy
Rose + Vanilla
Juniper + Cypress
Ginger + Vetiver
Black Spruce + Fir

*Be mindful of photosensitive essential oils

🌱Substitutions:
I tried a few different variations of ingredients over the past year and found this formulation worked the absolute best. However, I know not everyone can use these ingredients due to allergies.

Here are some substitutions:
•Coconut oil: substitute for shea butter (it absorbs quickly however I didn’t feel it was quite as effective all day long)
•Candelilla wax: substitute for beeswax but double the amount of wax
•Tapioca starch: substitute for arrowroot powder”

Have you made your own deodorant before? Have a favorite recipe you’d like to share? 🌞

  1. I love this! I was thinking about infusing herbs into the oil first, do you think Yarrow & maybe Orange peel would be a good ones? Oh you asked about if we’ve made it before. I used some diatomaceous earth in it and magnesium hydroxide at like 5-10 % & arrowroot but I love the idea of tapioca starch ❤❤❤
